On March 11th the U.S House of Representatives declared 2009 the “Year of the Military Family”. The bipartisan resolution was approved by a 422-0 roll call vote.
This resolution will hopefully be followed by President Barack Obama’s proclamation designating 2009 as a year to honor military families through ceremonies and events that highlight our commitment to this life of service and acknowledge our sacrifices.
While the resolution doesn’t expand benefits or make changes in pay, working and living conditions, it does highlight the importance of military families in the public and private arena. It gives us a stronger voice and an opportunity to talk about the issues that are important to us.
This is a great time to get involved with our local communities, participate in the national debate and, take our survey!
President Obama and the First Lady have pledged their commitment to military families during the campaign and continue to show their support. It’s up to us to maintain a dialogue that will be beneficial to the military and to society at large. Get involved and let your voices be heard!
